Enter the address bar against the link

Question

Is there a way to query the query to determine how to navigate?

(using LAMP configuration, PHP)

In other words ... I would like to know if the entry was entered manually in the address bar or the link / bookmark was used.

You can check the variable $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'], which will contain the URL from which the person came from. I'm not sure what will happen if they select a bookmark or enter the URL manually, although I suspect this variable will be empty.

In IE, you can detect when you boot from a bookmark if you previously used saveFavorite to save some data before the user tagged you. But that is pretty ugly.
