Looking at making a smartphone

I'm a young, inexperienced programmer (I had a year of Java at school, some MATLAB and HTML / CSS), but I decided that in order to get better, I set myself the goal of producing a simple smartphone application this year - perhaps either webOS or Android, since I'm on a PC and can't let the Mac just write an iPhone app.

So my question is: where to start? I read topics on how to write for Android, etc., but I'm not sure that I have enough Java experience to just jump straight ahead. And then there is JavaScript based webOS, right?

Probably, I just would like to receive from experienced people. I have a loan from Barnes and Noble, which I also want to get rid of, so if there is a guide that you find useful, feel free to ask.

tl; dr: beginner programming ultimately wants to create a simple smartphone app. Where to begin?

Since you know some kind of Java, it seems to me that collecting Android should not be too complicated. I made my first Android app a week later a couple of years ago when the documents were pulled in and I did not have prior Java experience.

I would advise you to choose an idea for the application that you really would like to build. If this is what motivates you, it will make a huge difference. First, choose something simple, or if you have a complicated application idea, see if it makes sense to have a very limited version of the function.

If your goal is to learn Android-specific development, then this is not the way to go, but if you want to explore the space for mobile devices a little, it might be worth checking out.
