Slight buffer change tracking mode

Is there a minor mode in Emacs that will highlight changes made in the buffer? I imagine something like highlight tails without a timeout function. I would use dedicated tails for this and change the timeout speed to be something huge, but the mode seems to take a little CPU time to perform synchronization (a function that I would not use).

EmacsWiki is usually your friend for such things. It looks like you might need a backlight-change mode.
