Why does MapView show fewer Map apps?

My application has com.google.android.maps.MapView. When using the normal view, I do not receive any data in Jerusalem and its environs. When scrolling in the same place using the Maps application or on the maps.google.com webpage, the place is rich in mapdata.

Is there a (known) difference between the presentation of the map API and the view of Google mapdata that I don't know about?

The Google API Add-in for Android is a proprietary product. Thus, there is no real public documentation about what data is provided by different layers (for example, satellite), only that these layers exist. Moreover, there is no real configuration for what is displayed at different levels - all you can do is turn layers on and off and control common aspects such as zoom levels.
