Entering text in an Android user view

I am dealing with a phone that does not have a physical keyboard, and I use my own native view for rendering. The device I'm working with seems to be in T9 type input mode by default, where it offers blocks of text. However, he never sends me the actual key events.

How can I tell which soft keyboard appears to enter silent event mode?

In InputMethodManager there is an isAcceptinText () call that will tell me if it is in event dispatch mode, but not a method to set it. Digging up the documentation did not lead to understanding. How do I tell the input manager that I want only key events?
