How to get an update form when intensive code is running in the background?

I have a Windows form that I would like to update with the status of work that happens in the background in different threads.

The problem is that even if I change the label on the form, it does not update immediately; it seems that work performed on other workflows does not allow the screen to refresh.

How to make the form immediately update the new status label value?

The shortest way:

label1.Text = "....";
label1.Update();
