What is the meaning of the dollar symbol ($) in SciLab?

EDIT: I meant the dollar symbol used in indices. I assumed that this is his only use.

The dollar symbol can be used to indicate the last element of any vector or matrix.

-->A = [1 2 3 4 5]
 A  =

    1.    2.    3.    4.    5.

-->A($)
 ans  =

    5.

-->A($-1)
 ans  =

    4.

According to the documentation , dollar signs are used to distinguish between embedded LaTeX .

Starting with Scilab 5.2, you can write LaTeX or MathML expression.

LaTeX texts must begin and end with $ (dollar symbol), while MathML texts must begin with <and end with> and be syntactically valid.
