Proprietary GNU GPL-based software

I am going to create a piece of software on top of other software that is licensed under the GPL. I plan to license and sell software.

Can anyone who is familiar with the details of the license see any problems or problems with dependency on a piece of software licensed in the GPL?

If you mean the GPL, then you need to release the full source code of your product and the tools necessary to create it. If it's GPL3, and you also sell hardware, you need to make sure customers can replace the software on it.

If it's an LGPL, you can link to it without affecting the above, but not statically!

Subjective: Personally, I think the GPL is too strict, I would look for alternative projects under the MPL or BSD licensing models that you could create on your software.
