How to get EXIF or metadata from images?

I need a really good library or command line software that can be used to extract Exif data from images. No specific programming language, other than a library or software, should work very well.

I found various libraries for PHP and Python, but most of them were not updated or supported and did not work for different manufacturers. I spent a lot of time to find something that works.

Does anyone know what Flickr uses to get Exif data? Perhaps this can answer the questions.

Thanks for any help

Gimp The Exif Viewer Plugin uses libexif , which is written in C and seems to have been recently updated. In addition, here itself EXIF standard , if you like to turn off on their own.

You can watch exiv2 . I used the command line version to bulk rename all my photos to include a timestamp in the file name.

It should be pretty hard to use from any scripting environment.
