Efficient method to store Python dictionary on disk?

What is the most efficient method for storing a Python dictionary on disk? The only methods I know right now are text text and a module pickle.

Edit: Sorry to be not very clear. By effective, I meant the fastest execution speed. The dictionary will contain modified objects that will contain information that will be analyzed and changed.
