ASP.NET: how to call a non-static page method with an AJAX client script?

How can I do that? Does the UpdatePanel function get ruled out when this is done?

The reason it only supports static methods is because no page is created. This means that there is no page instance, so of course the instance methods cannot be called. It also means that the UpdatePanel function does not start when you do this.
