Every flash downloader giving poor progress

Downloading a script file that I wrote at the beginning of last year for an internal website is unfortunate weird on several machines. On some machines, it consistently works fine, while on others, it constantly behaves badly. I have exactly the same problem with YUI loader, SWFUpload (2.2 and 2.5a) and Uploadify.

On failed machines, a progress event (or a callback depending on the situation) reports that the download is too fast. It is moving at about 9 or 10 MB / s instead of 50 or 60 kb / s, which is actually happening. The progress bar fills up very quickly, and then more progress events do not fire. After a few minutes, the completion event will start when the download is actually completed.

I must emphasize that the file download is normal, even though the progress made is very wrong.

Progress events report the correct file size, but the claimed amount downloaded is usually too high and it always seems to be a multiple of 2 ^ 16 (65536).

I only have this problem with Firefox 3.5 on Windows XP, all of which have different Flash 10 permutations.

Has anyone heard of this, or had any idea what is going on?

(I'm going to write some bug reports, but hopefully someone has previous experience.)
