How am I using Xcode Search incorrectly?

Xcode search just doesn't work as I expect. What am I doing wrong?

  • Project Search (cmd-shift-F) often leads to zero when I KNOW that there are valid hits. For example, searching for “Search Results” (without quotes) ironically returns 0 hits, although I have a .m project file opened with the @ “Search Results” line, sitting right in front of me. My search parameters are set as freely as I can do, case-insensitive, search in open projects, all candidate files, all files in this project, etc.

  • The search bar in the upper right corner of my main project window does not seem to behave like "Search for a project", and does not seem to be looking for the current document. What is he doing?

  • A search for “UIView” in the Help menu displays zero strokes, although if I open the Developer Documentation documentation from the Help menu and start searching from this window, it will receive many hits.

The help menu searches only for entries in the menu (try finding "Paste") and end-user documentation (how to use the software itself, not how to develop it).

Use the documentation viewer to search the developer documentation (it allows you to switch between searching for full text and searching for API names, choosing the OS version and language).
