Define a .net link to always use the latest GAC'd dll?

We have a provider who writes an application for us who uses the dll provided by them. My boss only found out that if we ever need to make changes to one of our dlls, we need to provide an updated version to the supplier so that they can recompile their project. This causes problems because we do not have automated testing, and any new build will require a complete run of our QA department.

I have not done too much with the GAC before, but I believe that this may be what we are looking for. Is there a way that I could deploy my dll (the one that I provide to the provider) in the GAC and offer the provider a .net project in such a way that I always get the latest version from the GAC?

They will need to set the SpecificVersionlink property to falsein the project that they are compiling. See this question and the article that it refers to .

If you make changes to your DLL, you will of course have to submit a new version so that your provider can compile with it.
