Flex classes (mx package) in an ActionScript project?

Question

Can someone tell me what is and is not recommended when it comes to blending in classes from the mx package only in an ActionScript project?

In particular, I want to use the AsyncToken, IResponder, and HTTPService classes in the mx package in an Actionscript project.

I assume that the mixing problem occurs when you need to use the mx classes. *, but you are in a pure as3 project.
