What is the difference between $ {...} and! {...} in the Spark View Engine?

What is the difference between ${...}and !{...}in the Spark View Engine?

There is probably a really great difference between them, but I see that they are used interchangeably.

Does encoding produce output and the other does not? What have I seen in groups? If so, what does it do:

${H(Model.Name)}

Also, how will the following be specified in the configuration effect ${}and !{}?

<pages automaticEncoding="true|false" />

I hope to document this for others as well, because the current documentation seems fragmented and outdated.
