EJB - performance issue (having more EJBs affects performance)

We are developing an application with approximately 400 database tables. They have an equal number of EJBs (all are local interfaces, and EJBs are stateless), and one EJB is inserted into another EJB using the @EJB tag.

My doubt is that the number of EJBs affects application performance more?
