Silverlight OOTB Support for Save File Browser Dialog

I am at the stage of developing an application that should be both standalone and a web application (to save the cost of building 2 about two identical applications). Basically, I decided to go to the Olight application for Silverlight, which will be installed on standalone machines, and they will write to the collection of files in the sandbox and sometimes talk with the server version. The same application (with a small configuration) will also work on the web server and store its data in the database.

I am, however, more of a WPF developer, so I would like to address some of the issues that I have before going too far along this path ... this:

  • I heard that you can transfer the file for the user to "Save As" in your browser with normal SL usage. Is there any similar functionality with OOTB? Since I want to save some local files in places other than the sandbox (with user permission)?

  • Can I configure OOTB to access the file system outside of an isolated area?

  • Is there a way to programmatically determine if a silverlight application is running in OOTB mode (so I know in which mode the application should work)?

  • Are there any serious flaws in my ideas so far that this is not possible?
