Should folder names start with a period?

Are there any recommendations or standards for folder names starting from the period? (ex: .NET). I have an installer that requires this to happen, and right now we are using "DotNET" instead of ".NET" for our folder names.

Thank!

There are no such recommendations in the Windows world.

On unix / linux environments, any file or directory starting with. default is a hidden file / directory.

Watch for it; although you can create them programmatically, you cannot create such a file using Windows Explorer. After trying to rename the folder to ".net" in Windows7, he complained that I did not provide the file name. Thus, this means that users and developers may have problems. This is probably not worth doing.

Microsoft installs the framework in \ windows \ Microsoft.Net, so you can use it instead.
