How do you quickly check if a network exists using Delphi 5?

Possible duplicates:
Speed up .Exists file for non-existing network resources
Faster DirectoryExists?

We need to write text to a file on our network, but there may be a situation where this place does not exist, and we need to write to another place. How do you quickly verify that a network location exists? Trying to write text in a place that does not exist with "try ... except" takes as long as 30 seconds (ish). Should there be a faster way, of course?

I would be very grateful if anyone could give me some pointers, please.

Thank!
