How to connect GWT to CometD / Bayeux events?

Question

I have a GWT application that periodically needs to be updated on the screen with new tick elements as they become available. We also have messages posted by the CometD / Bayeux server (for another AJAX application), and I would like to consume them in my GWT.

Of course, I can go into JavaScript, connect Dojo and receive callbacks at the JavaScript level - and from there route the call to Java GWT code via JSNI - but there seems to be no support in GWT directly for using long push or asynchronous calls other than RPC without RESTful.

How did you integrate GWT and Bayeux?
