Display TON images with jquery

I am about to embark on a jquery journey that I have never done. I will develop the site for one purpose: to display more than 300 images without a heading (cover). I'm just trying to think about how best to display all of these images in an easy-to-navigate, elegant style. I could use thumbnails and lightboxes, but it's boring. I want to invent! Any interesting ideas?

What is the purpose of people who come to view images? Is it just browsing, or will they search for specific images? Are images grouped into themes or artist or something else? You need to create a navigation system that will simplify your users to achieve their goal!

Perhaps if he will look more at some creative subject of images, I wonder if you can come up with a scheme that allows users to naturally find the path between the images. Perhaps there are several paths through the images, which, when you are viewing one, you have several options where to "go" further. Almost imitate the kind of viewing that might arise in an art gallery?
