Performance tuning with SQL Server

I tried to contact the author of the book that I am reading on SQL Server query performance, but it looks like the email address provided in the book no longer exists. Therefore, I decided to appeal to the community. I insert what I wrote below. Thanks in advance.

I bought your book (SQL Server 2008 Query Performance Tuning Distilled) and found out that my SQL Server Express Edition will not support many of the important tools that I will need to perform the required performance tests. As you said, it is important to have an initial analysis to check how many queries are detrimental to database performance. Since I do not have a profiler, I do not know. I downloaded the free project tool, but I'm afraid I do not get the necessary information. And it seems to me that the information that should be displayed when using SET STATISTICS will also not appear in SQL Server Express.

What is the lowest version of SQL Server that will offer me the tools to run the tests suggested in the book? Is this a version for developers? Does he offer everything I need to follow the examples?

Also, are there any problems installing a new version (e.g. Developer Edition) on top of Express Edition? Or do I need to uninstall the previous version?

I hope I'm not very worried. I would also like to congratulate you on a wonderful book on such an important topic.
