C / C ++ Library for Basic Authentication HTTPS Client

Do you recommend any good library or online examples for implementing an HTTPS client that can connect to a website using basic authentication? This is intended to work on Linux servers.

Any pointers help.

Update: Question about the unanimous libcurl - is it bundled by default in major distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, Gentoo, Slackware, RedHat and Arch?
