Visual Studio: add the same project or link to different solutions

I am trying to customize my Visual Studio projects. I have a common project (say SharedProj) that has all the constants, common classes. SharedProj will refer to two other solutions (e.g. SolnA, SolnB), but potentially more in the future.

I can think of two ways:

  • I can add SharedProj for both SolnA and SolnB.
  • Or I can add SharedProj.dll to the links in SolnA and SolnB.

Since this is my first experience working on a solution that refers to other projects / solutions, is one of the preferred ways than the other?

By the way, is there an easy way to rename a variable name in SharedProj and update all references to this variable? For example, if I rename a variable name in a project, there will be an option to "Rename" old "to" new ", which renames everything.

Thank you for your help.
