Developing Chrome OS on Mac

Google has just announced the release of its Chromium / Chrome OS product :

I am working on a macbook using the snow leopard and I want to start hacking using Google Chrome OS. They suggest using Ubuntu 8.10 linux distro .

I'm curious if any developers could create / use the source code of Chrome OS on Mac, and if no one used the virtual machine or bootcamp on Mac in Ubuntu to develop Chrome OS.

I am looking for the best solution for VM OS that allows me to stay as close as possible to my Mac OS (I don't like the idea of partitioning and rebooting to work in a virtual OS). Are there any free virtual solutions (costs for VMWare Fusion). I could just use bootcamp on linux , but am I looking for a solution that allowed me to stay in Snow Leopard and maybe even share disk space with a virtual OS?

There is also Q , which is very fast. You may also be interested in Chrome extensions that do not require a full installation of Chrome OS.
