Mandatory field communication form

I always associated the fields of the required form in web applications with users by placing an asterisk from the end of the control or shortcut and having a small sentence in the lines "required fields are marked with an asterisk (*)" or a similar message at the head of the form so that they know that before they start filling it.

Totally boring.

After too many years, I'm tired of it, and I'm looking for something else that is intuitive and definitely more interesting.

Does anyone come across a method for this, which is slightly different and, just as important, sends a message before the user starts using the form?

EDIT: I stay with asterisks ... I tried some of the ideas presented, and some looked great, but I can’t get away from what Michael does, that the asterisk is expected and, moreover, is universally understood. Also, when you consider accessibility, it becomes more difficult to use CSS, etc. To deliver a message.

I found this to be a good article, which also contains some useful instructions on how to make sure that sighted users and users using screen readers receive the message correctly when repeating through fields.
