Deployment of .Net Web Service on Windows Server 2008 is not performed

I am trying to deploy a web service written in VS2008 on a completely new Windows Server 2008. The same project has been successfully run countless times on Windows Server 2003.

I tried deployment in two ways (both work on old Windows Server 2003):

  • Publish the project using Http directly to the IIS server. I get the following error: "Could not find the web server in dotnetservtest. Check that the web server name is valid and the proxy settings are correct. If you are sure that everything is correct, the web server may be temporarily down."
  • Create an MSI and run it on the server. Immediately after clicking the file, the installation program prints on the screen: "The installer was interrupted before the ApplicationName could be installed. To restart it, you must restart the installation program."

We will be very grateful for any ideas.

Edit: We were able to solve both problems, thanks to the conclusions of Alex Stankevich. The first problem can be resolved by enabling IIS6.0 on the server.
The scond problem can be solved by installing FrontPage Extensions, as described here.
