What are the relative merits of REXX and CLIST under z / OS?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using REXX or CLIST in TSO for z / OS?

I understand that CLIST is just an older command language, but we seem to be getting a lot of new software using them, although REXX is now standard on the operating system.

Is there any reason why CLIST is preferred, especially considering the power of REXX and its tight integration in z / OS?
