I want to answer one of those problems that sometimes give us developers who are trying to sell to the budget.
We have a client who needs the following:
- A document management system that supports AD authentication (even if the server can be located in another place - potentially in a VPN)
- Possibility for bulk import of about 2000 documents (allows you to simply scan PDF files and Word documents, etc.)
- It is necessary to mark some documents as "external", and then allow us to write part of our site so that they display documents in the "downloads" section
- Pretty good rights management.
- It is written in .Net and MSSQL so that we can log in and play if we need (via apis or directly)
- Very well documented and maintained to be able to inject and complete deployment within a month or two. (we need to do many other things besides DM).
The total budget for external software will be 30-40 thousand dollars.
This sounds like an impossible task, since the budget for software and the timeline are a little painful, but this is a task, and we need a budget for additional developers and implication (not to mention import), which will be much more than the cost of software, but not enough to pay for a custom solution that offers the same level of features and beauty
