How to change shortcut in textbox using jQuery

Question

I have some shortcuts that I want to allow users to edit. Is it possible to do this, and if so, how (using jQuery).

When a user clicks a shortcut, it turns into a text field that contains the existing shortcut text. When the user then edits the label and clicks somewhere other than the text field, the value is saved.

Actually it can be several functionalities in one, if you could help, it would be very useful.

What you describe is often referred to as a "place editor." You should check out the Jeditable plugin demo page . I think this is exactly what you are looking for.
