Php based document management system

Can anyone recommend a simple document management system with a decent web services interface?

I use it to provide metadata management for uploaded files from an ajax web application.

I tried KnowledgeTree, but the level of web service seems a bit complicated. Is there anything else with similar features, but is it better to integrate the backend?

DocMgr has just released a new version where they have an xml-based web services API. I have not tried the new version yet, but the document management system is great (IMO is better than the knowledge tree), and it's worth a try.
