The best open source database for a large web application

I am starting work on a relatively large web application with the possibility of high bandwidth and storage of a large amount of data.

My expertise lies with MS SQL Server, but it is expensive to run.

Is there an alternative to SQL Server (standard) that can work with the same bandwidth, has similar features and is free ? Any advice is much appreciated, Thanks in advance, in JP

Update

To answer a common point - SQL Express has limitations that make this invalid for me. In particular, correct me, if I am mistaken, it can only address 1 processor, 1 GB of memory, the maximum size is 4 GB per database, etc. Etc.

Also, I know about bizspark. The problem is that after starting the project you have to pay for server licenses (for example, Windows / SQL Server). Great for getting up and running, but after that you have to pay. (Correct me if I am wrong)

If you still don't know, Microsoft has a program called BizSpark , which basically gives free software (well, there is a face value of $ 100 for the program) for beginners. The key requirements are that you are a private owner, have an annual income of less than $ 1 million and not older than three years.

From BizSpark Program Guide :

Don't do any more research behind these two, and just pick the one that seems the easiest.

Also, this is a pretty silly question that you could answer with a simple Google Search
