I use a password strength meter to let the user know how strong a password they have chosen. But this password controller, obviously, does not cover how weak the password is under the attack of the dictionary. How can I test this, and is it worth it?
Also my usual password check is started initially using javascript in the browser (without the need for transfer). If I want to check the weakness of a dictionary attack, I will have to pass it to a script. My understanding is that I should not convey it in a clear way.
Can someone help me figure this out. How to check the password is not weak when attacking a dictionary and how to encrypt it before passing it to my script?
Additional Information:
Why do I think I need a dictionary attack check in addition to regular password counters? As some of you have pointed out, users can choose passwords such as P @ssword or Yellow12. But most of the password verification checks I've come across will consider this a good password. At least I use "Another Password Counter" and it really is (and I actually consider it one of the best password checks). If someone knows a more reliable means of checking passwords, please indicate it, but only if you know for sure, based on experience, that it is stronger;)
