Visual Studio - Vs Web Project Website

I used to deal with a lot of classic ASP-based websites, so when I had to switch to ASP.Net, I chose the site because it is very similar. I'm about to start with a big new project and wonder if I should overestimate my processes.

I read most of the day about the differences between a web project and a website.

I understand the differences, but they seem so similar. The biggest difference I can find is that the project is precompiled, however someone replied that a regular site can also be precompiled as an option.

My question is, in fact, in the future, will Microsoft support both in the long term and will it be โ€œgainingโ€ influence / become normal?

I would have thought (though not sure) that the advantage of pre-compiling in a project is speed, but if I can also pre-compile the website, does it lose any benefit?

I will feel much more comfortable using what I have for many years, but I donโ€™t lose anything at all? In the end, when I finished writing the site and handed it over to the client, is there any benefit from it?

I am also wondering if I ever make the wrong choice, can you change between them?

Hope this is not a duplicate. The only other posts I found discuss actual direct differences, I believe I know them and ask for the difference after the project, etc.
