AppEngine Taskqueue: is there a way to determine the depth of the queue?

Is there a way to programmatically determine how many tasks are queued in a task in AppEngine?

To update this question, you can now use the QueueStatistics class to solve this problem.

In the admin console, under the Task Queues section , there is a column that says "Tasks in the queue." I believe what you want.
