Open GL - Overkill for the 2nd card game?

I just got the idea to create a card game, and I was just thinking whether to use OpenGl or CoreAnimation. If you tell me whether it will be too redundant to use OpenGL for a 2D card game. Thanks:)

It is hard to say without knowing more. You can get pretty far using CALayers, images or a quartz pattern for cards. It really depends on the level of visual effects that you are considering. If he just moves the cards around, then I would say using layers.

" Apple Core Animation".

Given that Core Animation uses OpenGL for rendering, you probably won't notice a big difference in performance or memory usage. I don’t think you would win anything using OpenGL. In addition, you will have to process all the animations yourself, unlike the predefined set it and forget it technology in Core Animation.
