How to merge forward in svn?

For example, suppose I have a branch that I want to update with new material in the trunk. I always just merged the chest into a new branch, but came across a slightly different process , which is Divmod . Does divmod have any special requirement to do this branching, or have I been doing it wrong all the time?

The way you do it now is the way the Subversion book offers .

Divmod seems to do it this way due to merge syntax up to 1.5:
