Which Java or Daemon infrastructure would you recommend?

I came across many different ways of turning a Java program into a Windows service or a * nix daemon such as Java Service Wrapper, Apache Commons Daemon, etc. Licensing prohibition (e.g. JSW GPL or dual license) and more advanced features that you would recommend? All I intend to do is convert a simple Java program into a service; I don’t need anything, just something that works as a service or a daemon, so I can start it or stop it in the service manager, or it works for the whole * nix time.

EDIT:

I decided to make this a wiki community. I did not start this question with the intention of finding an answer to the problem that I really had. I was just reading and researching and studying this question, so I was looking for recommendations and the like. Sorry I didn’t do this or did it first. I did not know what the community wiki was when I was just starting out, and I still completely forgot about this issue. Thanks so much for the answers!
