What are the communication methods between Silverlight and the server?

Question

Background: I basically have no experience with Silverlight, I was asked to start reading on technology and provide some information for a client who might want to rebuild the interface of their .Net Desktop application in silverlight. So my experience is what I was able to do Google (which is surprisingly difficult) and a few tutorials that I did. I know that Silverlight can use ASMX Web Service, WCF Services or REST to communicate with the server.

Question: Are there any official or unofficial postal messages that anyone knows about?
