ASP.net MVC project does not compile on IIS

I used to simply upload asp.net sites to a live server, and IIS automatically compiles them.

But when I do the same with asp.net MVC projects, I just get errors, and I need to release the project assembly before loading it.

Note1: I am using VWD 2008 Express

Note2: the project works fine if I free it on my computer and then upload it to the server

I had a similar problem, and it turned out that ASP.NET MVC was not installed on the server. Once I copied the MVC DLL to the bin directory, it worked fine. Are you sure the MVC dlls are available on the server? Try copying them with your project and see if it works.

Is the server you are trying to download used to have a System.Web.Mvcdll?
