Database modeling or database design: what comes first?

I would like to know what is the common practice for implementing a domain. First, designing business objects that require persistence or a database schema, generating them from an entity relationship diagram (and then ORM poco *)?

I am about to start a solution, but I would like to know which one is the most preferable “template”.

Depends on whether you are an object or a relational fashion designer. Preference is dictated by what you know best.
