Using Sharepoint Web Services

How can I use Sharepoint web services so that I can use the SharePoint document library in a standalone asp.net application. I added a web link tohttp://<server-url>/_vti_bin/lists.asmx

SharePoint Web Services Documentation on MSDN contains several guides and walkthroughs. The most important of what you described:

• Lists : extract and update file metadata, validate and verify files. Especially look at UpdateListItems .

• Data List: The query returns the items in the list. Use a tool like U2U CAML Query Builder , create a CAML query.

If you are having trouble finding how to do this, search on this site. Many questions about using SharePoint web services are already asked here, for example. this one for uploading documents .

Be warned: relying solely on these web services is likely to cause problems at some point. They do not have many features that are present in the SharePoint user interface and object model. Before taking this approach, make sure that you test all the functionality required with proof of concept, or be prepared to write a custom web service .
