Keep empty cells when saving excel as xml

I have an excel document where some of the cells are empty. When I save excel as an xml spread hicket, I only get a row with cells that have data and empty cells disappear (and the next cell gets an index attribute to indicate its true position) Is there a way to save excel in xml and remove empty cells to save space? I run xsl in this xml and should know the value of the cell exactly, even if its empty

It is unclear from your question if you are talking about empty cells inside data or cells outside data. If you are talking about empty cells outside the data area, than you cannot do, since this is actually an infinite number of cells. You can always just put cells after import if you want to have more cells or rows.

I just put one quote in an empty cell → '.

  • Select the display area in Excel and run the Excel Find / Replace tool.
  • Leave the Find What field blank.
  • Enter one quote in the Replace With box.
  • Click Replace All and re-export to XML. Now all fields should be displayed.
