Abstract and Roles

Question

I am developing an application authorized to authenticate users.

I would like some roles to be provided to users so that I can allow certain actions to certain roles.

Is there a gem out of the box or a plugin that is suitable for this, or would I rather build it from scratch.

What would you recommend?

ACL9 is what I use now for authorization, authlogic is the best match, so I think you can handle it.
