How to download test software for PHP Web Forum?

I noticed that there are many packages of PHP forums - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software_(PHP) . I'm specifically looking for a forum package that scales well - from what I heard, both Vbulletin and Simple Machines, two of the most popular forum packages, require significantly more power than you might think.

After several hours of Googlin’s work, I couldn’t find a forum performance comparison, so I’m thinking of doing it myself. The question is where to start? What is the best way to download test packages for PHP forums?

You can try something like what they have at http://loadimpact.com/ or write your own.

If you have the opportunity to deploy a few simple scripts that simply secured a bunch of pages, you could easily write something yourself.

What you need to remember:

  • Your forums will be database driven. If your test test is just reading spam on one page, the request (s) will be cached and will run faster than in a large forum where users often execute more requests than the request cache can store. Memcached presents the same problem for your load test.

  • Make sure you check messages as well as views

  • 5 , 10, 50, 100, 1000... , . , , .

In my opinion, VBulletin is one of the best weighted packages in the world.

BB is well known to break after several months of use.
