Is AMF flash only?

I'm new to AMF, and I found out that AMF is supposedly very fast.

I was wondering if I should use it for all of my web services. Is it still fast without Flash VM?

This question can have two answers. One answer concerns AMF as a protocol, the other is about implementation.

As a protocol, AMF produces a small output that has most of the redundancy. Compared to a similar SOAP implementation, AMF will use fewer bytes of network traffic. In some applications, this can be considered "faster."
