Git / SVN for developing asp.net instead of VSS?

At work, we use ASP.net 2.0 and VSS. VSS is a beast, we constantly have problems with people viewing files, and there are no branches - this is crazy. I know that SVN / GIT is mainly used by open source developers, are there any disadvantages for ASP.NET developers using it? I insisted on SVN internally, but I think GIT could also be a great option. Our team spreads over 3 continents.

I used Subversion in a corporate environment with great success. I personally have not used Git in a corporate environment, but with distributed offices this sounds good.

Expect a big hump until everyone is speeding, but disabling VSS is definitely a good idea. We never looked back when we switched from VSS to SVN. I would advise you not to skimp on preparations for the new system. Get some smart people to read the documentation for any system you choose - and read it carefully. Then determine how you are going to use it, and report it accordingly. Suggest which pieces of documentation everyone else needs and give them enough time to read it. Source control should not be based on "return and hope" :)
