Cannot find dsound.h after installing DirectX 9.0c in Windows XP

I am trying to create portaudio using MS VC ++ 2009. The first time I tried to do this, I got an error, dsound.h was not found. Then I downloaded and installed DirectX 9.0c. Now I assumed that the installer will create the DX_SDK environment variable through which I can specify the header file in MSVC. However, this did not happen, and now I can not find the folder in which DirectX is installed. The installer does not provide me with the ability to specify where I want to install. Please, help.

Usually in such cases, you need to configure the IDE to search for additional included folders. In VS2005, which runs through Tools / Options / Projects and Solutions / VC ++ Directories, then "Include Files" in the upper right combo. You want to manually go to the path to enable DX - for example, on my computer, which is: "C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft DirectX SDK (August 2008) \ Include".

NTN.

The environment variable created during the installation of DirectXSDK is called "DXSDK_DIR". You should find it in the "System Variables" section and set the default to "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Microsoft DirectX SDK (June 2010)."
