IPhone: is it worth developing an application to support OS 2.2?

The new OS (3.0+) adds more features that speed up development (for example, working with lists, etc.). On the other hand, there may exist (potentially) many users somewhere else running OS 2.2.

Is there a place to look for statistics? Can anyone offer advice on the target OS for the new Christmas app planned for the Christmas release?

Based on Admob data, adoption rates for earlier versions of the SDK were pretty good in the past. Switching to more than 60% will take several months. See Admob Statistics

  • iPhone OS 3.0 is significantly slower than 2.0, it has some nice add-ons, but it's so slow that sometimes I regret updating my iPhone 3G (I think it's less noticeable on 3GS).
